The Codorniu cellers at Sant Sadurni d’Anoia were built for Manuel Raventos between 1895 and 1915. At that time, Codorniu was producing about 100,000 bottles of cava per year. Now, a century later the company is producing 50 million bottles per year.

 

Beneath the Codorniu building, a labyrinth of subterranean passages extends for more than 30 kilometres, one of the largest cellers in the world. The cava produced here is excellent. Raimat owns 2,245 hectares of vineyard.

 

The grapes from these vineyards are used for the production of still and sparkling wines. Raimat has the earliest grape harvest in Europe, the largest vineyard in Spain and the biggest wine producing estate owned by one family. All their wines represent reliability, quality and good value for money.

 

The SEO team will meet and greet you at your hotel and accompany you by private coach or car to the famous Codorniu Vineyard in the famous wine growing region of the Penedes, some 35 minutes from Sitges’s city centre. During the outward journey the guides will give a bit of background information into the area you are going to visit and prepare you for the vineyard tour.

 

On arrival, an official member of the Codorniu staff will greet you and lead you on an exclusive, private tour of one of Spain’s most famous cava vineyards. During the visit the group will get to see the vines, visit the subterranean cellars housing one hundred million bottles while also admiring the splendor of the modernist building, designed by famous Catalan architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch.

 

A visit to the wonderful gardens is a must and don't forget to take your camera! You will also learn the whole cava making process and the visit will conclude with the opportunity to taste two or three cavas under the guidance of your professional guide, who will also help you appreciate the qualities and characteristics of each cava. To accompany this, for a small addition fee, we can offer a light buffet, consisting of cheese, ham and the local favourite, pan con tomate.

 

 

There will also be time afterwards to visit the shop and purchase a memento of the day.
